Final Fantasy VII turns 15

I can still remember my first memory with this game like it was yesterday, as I am sure most of you can too. For me it was waking up on Christmas morning and getting my PlayStation, hell if I wasn’t excited enough opening it up and seeing my PlayStation for the first time alongside Ridge Racer, Tekken, and Final Fantasy 7 (btw good choice of games dad), the excitement was nothing compared to what I felt the first time I turned on the game.

The beautiful music composed by Nobuo Uematsu, the crazy opening scene, fighting your way to the red scorpion through the reactor, blowing up the place before hitting the slums. This was just the start and not just the start of the game, this was the start of something that would stay with me forever.

There is no doubt that some could argue that other RPGS at the time were their favourites but the adventure that Squaresoft delivered spread over 3 discs was an experience that was second to none. The death of Aerith, unique characters, weapons, finding materia, summons, chocobos, cities, the highwind, weapon battles, I could go on… I will end it though with one name that every gamer should recognise, Sephiroth. Not only did the game have an amazing story but it had one of the biggest badass characters ever. Along with the epic One Winged Angel score and legendary Masamune sword Sephiroth is still one of the most loved (including myself) characters in gaming ever.

Happy Birthday FFVII, and yes I still want my remake.

What was your first or favourite Final Fantasy 7 memory?
